Fujitsu Launches World's Smallest RF Module for Mobile WiMAX Devices

Tokyo, February 7, 2008 — Fujitsu Limited today announced the launch of the world's smallest radio frequency (RF) module for mobile devices, which supports all of the RF circuitry necessary for Mobile WiMAX, the highly anticipated next-generation broadband wireless technology. The new RF module, MB86K71, co-developed with Fujitsu Laboratories Limited, was designed using 90-nanometer CMOS process technology. Sample shipment is scheduled to start at the end of February 2008.

This new RF module from Fujitsu, the world's smallest to feature all of the RF circuits necessary for Mobile WiMAX devices including RF-IC, antenna switches, a power amplifier, filters, and an oscillator circuit, measures just 15mm x 15mm (height: 1.5mm) in dimension. Thus, this RF module will enable significant reduction of the form-factor of Mobile WiMAX devices. The new RF module supports MIMO technology, thereby enabling high-speed and reliable wireless connections that are essential for Mobile WiMAX devices. Furthermore, Fujitsu also verified that this RF module can be connected to Fujitsu's previously released Mobile WiMAX baseband chip, MB86K21, enabling customers faster development and faster time to market of Mobile WiMAX devices through the use of both of these chips.

Fujitsu Launches of Mobile WiMAX Base Stations

Tokyo, February 6, 2008 — Fujitsu Limited announced today the development of the BroadOne™ WX series of mobile WiMAX(1) base stations. The BroadOne WX300, an outdoor macrocell base station, is light, energy-efficient, and - as the smallest in its class(2) - occupies less space, which makes it economical to deploy. The BroadOne WX300 will be available globally beginning in the second quarter of 2008 (April-June).

Fujitsu is positioning the BroadOne WX series mobile WiMAX base stations as a key part of its global product solutions for the rapidly emerging wireless broadband industry. Wireless broadband is widely expected to transform the way people live and work in the next-generation network era, as it promises high-speed, high-capacity connectivity to everyone, everywhere.

Fujitsu has designed its new base stations with many features to meet the global requirements for mobile WiMAX networks. The base stations consume low levels of power, deliver superior performance, and, as the smallest base stations available, are easy to install. As a result, mobile WiMAX service providers will be able to build their wireless broadband infrastructure at a lower cost and offer end-users service at more reasonable rates.

With the launch of the base stations, Fujitsu is also introducing its BroadOne brand name to be used for forthcoming wireless products.

Alcatel-Lucent extends DSL innovation with new Smart DSL technology

Paris, February 4, 2008 Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the introduction of its innovative Smart DSL technology at the occasion of the TVoDSL 2008 conference, taking place in Paris from January 29th till February 1st.

Line stability has a huge impact on the end-user's quality of experience (QoE). A digital subscriber line (DSL) made unstable by crosstalk, for example, can cause service degradation and even service interruption. Increasing the signal to noise ratio is the traditional approach to stabilizing lines - but this usually results in a degradation of bandwidth, something that is not well suited in today's triple-play world.

Therefore, Alcatel-Lucent now introduces its Smart DSL technology, targeting operators deploying higher-speed bandwidth services over asymmetric DSL (ADSL) and very high-speed DSL (VDSL) lines. The Smart DSL technology allows operators to guarantee DSL line stability at higher bit rates than traditional methods, building on Alcatel-Lucent's Artificial Noise and Virtual Noise (ANVN) innovations.
