Vodafone Spain selects Alcatel-Lucent's DSL technology solution

Paris, January 28, 2008 — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has been selected by Vodafone Spain, the Spanish subsidiary of the world's leading mobile communications company, to provide the DSL technology solution that will optimize the transport of its mobile data services in Spain.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its cost-effective IP-based backhaul solution in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Valladolid and Malaga. Alcatel-Lucent's solution will also maintain the bandwidth and speed of Vodafone's 3G/HSPA data services.

Alcatel–Lucent will provide Vodafone Spain with an innovative IP DSLAM-based backhaul solution, leveraging the economics of Ethernet and service awareness of IP. Leveraging its capabilities as an end-to-end network integrator, Alcatel-Lucent will supply the implementation services including network deployment, testing and integration of the entire DSL backhaul solution.
