Huawei All Set to Conquer North American Mobile Phone Market: Launches Its First Mobile Phone in North America

Huawei announced today the immediate availability of the Huawei M318 for MetroPCS Communications Inc. customers. This sleek and feature-rich clamshell handset marks the first available Huawei mobile phone for the North American market and the first in a family of devices that Huawei will make available to North American customers.

Although successful as telecommunication equipment vendor in its home-turf China and most part of the developing world and to some extent in Europe, Huawei is yet to make it presence felt in the North American market. Its previous attempts to sell data communication gear in the US was a disaster. Huawei was sued by Cisco for intellectual property violations. Huawei went for an out of the court settlement and silently withdrew from the US.

Well that's the past. But things are quite different this time around. Since Huawei is entering with Mobile phones, which is a commodity product, more than competitors trying to stop its entry, it will be the demanding North-American consumers who will decide the fate of Huawei.

Looking at its recent success in selling 3G phones to major operators in Europe, Huawei seems to have learnt the art of selling to the developed world. It will be interesting to watch whether Huawei will be able to repeat that in the US (and North America).

Will Huawei be lucky and successful and this time? Leave your comments to let us know your view..
